Interview with Rebecca Stachnik

Q: What does it take to become the Sales Development Representative (SDR) of the month?

A: I believe success began with setting tangible goals for myself and taking a more aggressive approach to my daily activities. Even more important though was consistency and keeping a positive attitude.

Sales is a numbers game, it’s inevitable that you are going to face a “no” more than a “yes” and while that sounds really discouraging it’s actually a great benchmark for showing whether you are doing your job. Also, every rejection presents a unique opportunity to reflect on what you can be doing differently.

Q: What is your favorite part about working with the sales team at Apptega?

A: Everyone is so open to collaboration and supporting each other’s successes and making time for one another. The team is made up of so many diverse thinkers and everyone is open to sharing both their failures and successes. It fosters an environment where we can all grow together and it’s honestly very special.

Q: How has your career grown since starting at Apptega?

A: I’m still fairly new to the team but having the opportunity to get to know and work directly with colleagues in every department and company leadership has helped me refine many hard and soft skills. So many members of our team started their careers as SDRs and grew within the organization, so I feel confident that I am headed in the same direction.

Q: What would be your top advice for anyone looking to start a career in sales?

To start, find an experienced mentor, don’t take rejection personally, and never stop learning. Curiosity and critical thinking are so valuable in sales because it allows you to get creative with outreach ideas and sales prospects.

Q: What is your favorite part of your workday?

A: Versatility and communication. While my day-to-day responsibilities are the same, not every day is or has to be the same.

Q: Tell us about your career path and how you got to the role that you’re in today?

I worked in retail management while I was in college and then briefly as a coordinator at a law firm right after graduating. I missed the drive and versatility of managing retail sales and while researching jobs, I got really interested in the concept of using technology to solve problems and make the world a better place.

Q: Outside of work, what are some other things that you’re passionate about?

A: Art, nature, and comedy. I’m a painter and I absolutely love standup comedy.

Q: Where is your happy place in Atlanta?

A: The dog beach on the Chattahoochee River. There is a hiking trail and a big beachy river where people bring their dogs and allow them to run around there.

Q: Who is your modern-day hero?

Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation. I know she is a fictional character, but she has a binder for everything and never complains; even when things don’t go her way. She lives and breathes servant leadership and genuine enthusiasm for her job and the people around her–something I strive for every day.
